Introducing Podzinger

Wednesday, March 29, 2006 · 2 Comments

When i started podcasting, i also started listening to other peoples podcasts to get inspiration. It also turned out to be very interesting. Instead of listening to music while walking to class, or eating, i could catch up on things.

One of my favorite podcasts is Inside the net. They talk about a different website, or service every week, and interview someone from there and get the inside scoop.

This week they had Podzinger. This website, is like Google for podcasts! How? They use speech to text software to create a transcript for your podcast, then when you search something, it searches through all the transcripts to get your results. Once you find them, you can listen to the excerpt from the podcast, the whole episode, or subscribe to it for good, right there in the search results. Can you say AWESOME!

They also take that and get some really cool features out of it, like Most talked about person of the week.

I submitted my feed, so hopefully i can get listed there soon, they said they would send me an email when my first episode had been transcribed. This should trun out to be really cool.

The New Podcasting Details

Since Alex requested them, here is how i go about podcasting now

Tools

Recording the Intro/Outro

  • First i recoreded the intro in Aucacity. This consists of recording the vocals (Bern).
  • Importing the song (converted to MP3 or WAV in iTunes).
  • Line up the vocals and song.
  • Trim song accordingly.
  • Add fade out effect.
  • Export to MP3.
  • The same process can be applied to your outro however you wish.

Recording your episode

  • Get yourself organized however you want (Outline, Show notes)
  • Begin recording, and get the body of the episode down in Audacity
  • Once you are done, import your Intro.mp3 and/or Outro.mp3s
  • Line up the episode with your intro and outro so that they flow together nicely
  • Export to MP3

Uploading your podcast

  • After you have created an OurMedia account, upload the file, and add all the nessecary details (Lisence, Author, Copyright holder).
  • This part will take a while, depending on how long your episode is.
  • Once that is done, go back into your file history, and look for the file you just uploaded. it will give you a direct URL link to the file, so link that in your podcast, and your good to go!

And futher questions you can contact me and ill help you out.

The beggining of WordPress

Tuesday, March 28, 2006 · 9 Comments

Yes, i have once again changed my blogging services. This time a little without warning. You may be wondering why? well then this post is for you!

Blogger was a welcome step up from my previous blogging service. It allowed me complete flexibility. I could literally put whatever i want, where ever i want. The world was my blogging oyster. But with that freedom came alot of work. All of which, fell on me.

For those not familiar with blogger, your website is rendered from a central template. literally everything comes from how that template is written. I had changed my template several times, and every time you change your style, you must adapt your template to fit. which meansalot of editing.

WordPress however, while still being somewhat less flexible in terms of templates, makes up for it in ease of use. Everything is separate, and stays the same from template to template. I can change my style 5 times a day without worrying about updating my sidebar and changing my posting template.

I also feel that wordpress is a more refined blogging service. infact, most people when they think of a blog, think of a wordpress blog. and i feel the same way. I think that wordpress is more in-touch with the way that the internet is changing (Web 2.0), and therefore provides me with cooler features. Not to mention everything else that works with wordpress
Such as native sub-pages. You may remember my clever hack to make subpages in blogger. sure it worked for what it was, but the true beauty of sub-pages comes with the wordpress templates. also blog categories. Forget about technorati tags, catagories are what its all about.

And all of this is built into the online editor. Meaning my blogging is completely mobile again! Goodbye zoundry, Hello freedom!

Basically, i am very happy and excited about this new change. as you ca see, all my old blogger posts are here too, so its like i never left. If you want/need the new feed, its right here. this is a great change, so feedback is appreciated.

Again, nothing has changed except where i do my blogging / podcasting. and it looks ALOT nicer too lol.
